Simply Style

Welcome to Esther's Clothes Line! I create colorful, unique, one-of-a-kind clothing based on three core philosophies.

1. Clothing should be comfortable. I never use elastics, buttons, zippers, or synthetics. As a result, all of my pieces are extremely versatile and can fit a variety of body shapes and styles. They're also unbelievably comfortable because they can be easily adjusted to fit your mood for the day.

2. Clothing should be durable. The number one question I ask myself when purchasing a new outfit is, "When I'm wearing this, can I bend down and hug a messy kid or an injured animal at any moment?" If the answer is no, that outfit isn't for me. I need clothes that let me live my life and hug the snot right out of people whenever I want. Cotton lets me do that.

3. Clothing should allow you to be boldly, confidently, and uniquely you. The clothing we wear affects how we interact with life. When we feel confident, bold, gorgeous, and comfortable we walk differently, we talk differently, we stand up for ourselves, we reach out to others. Honestly, the clothes themselves don't really matter. What matters is who we are and how we wear ourselves. But it never hurts to have an outfit that reminds us of the vibrant, colorful person we really are.

The Wraparound - $85

This skirt was so much fun to make and is incredibly versatile. The shirt/skirt pairing options are, so far, unlimited. I've yet to find a combination that doesn't work. Even better, I've tricked lots of people into thinking I have a completely new dress (they can't always tell it's a skirt) just by wearing a different blouse. You'll always have something fresh with this skirt in your closet.
Size: One size fits many.
Length: Varies.

The Daygown - $65

I was trying to make a nightgown. I found some approximate measurements for a general pattern that looked pretty cute and I went for it. I dug out the ugliest fabric I could find (fabric I didn't mind ruining if this didn't work out), cut out two large rectangles, sewed them together and made a concerningly large and box-shaped dress. Then I tried it on, grabbed a random scarf to use as a tie...and fell in love. My simple little nightgown makes a gorgeous sundress. This dress looks odd on the hanger but it looks incredible on.

The straps are completely adjustable and can be untied and retied to fit different shoulder/chest sizes. Because this dress is literally just a rectangle it fits (and flatters) a variety of busts. The length is the only non-adjustable part (and because I'm using scraps the length is limited to fabric width), but it wouldn't be hard to add a couple extra inches of a different fabric if you wanted some extra length.

The Pantaloons - $65

How do you make a flattering pair of pants without using a zipper or a button? Also, how do you make pants that won't wear out in awkward places? Finally, how do you make a pair of pants that fits comfortably both before and after a really good meal? The answer? Adapt the fisherman's pant. These draw-string pants work for everything. Dress them up with a blouse for a day at work, or down with a tank top for some yoga. Loosen the waist after lunch and tighten it back up for your night out. Give them three hours and these pants will become your best friend.

Common Questions

What about pockets?
I know, I know, pockets are convenient and, these days, almost an absolute necessity. Unfortunately, due to the difficulties of sizing a skirt for multiple people, the skirts and dresses do not have pockets. However, if you want to add pockets to your skirt or dress, feel free to reach out and I'll share my perfect pocket pattern with you. The beauty of a scrap skirt/dress is that any relatively matching fabric you already have will work with your skirt.

What if you don't have my size?
I would love to say that my one-size-fits-many sizing style fit everyone, but I recognize there are limits to how much cotton can stretch. I know I will need to add larger and smaller pattern sizes into the mix, but I don't currently know how much larger/smaller I need to go. If you don't think my one-size-fits-many will fit you, send me a message with your sizing concerns and your measurements. I'll use those to make the next one-size-fits-smaller/larger pattern as well as a skirt, dress, or pantaloon just for you.

Care Instructions?
